What is the Amicable Declaration?

The Amicable Motor Accident Report (DAAA) is a document that allows you and the other driver to describe the accident in a straightforward manner, without the immediate need to call the authorities.

This document is accepted by all insurers in car insurance in Portugal and helps to speed up the claims settlement process.

When should you use the Amicable Declaration?

You should use the mutual agreement procedure when:

  • No one has been injured
  • Those involved agree on how the accident happened 
  • There is only material damage (to vehicles or other property) 
  • Both vehicles are registered and have valid insurance

Important: If anyone is seriously injured, if there is a disagreement about the facts, or if one of the drivers flees the scene, you must contact the authorities (GNR or PSP) immediately. 

A step-by-step guide to completing the Amicable Declaration

1. Date, time and venue

State precisely when and where the accident took place.

2. Driver details

Includes:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact
  • Driving licence number

3. Vehicle details

Please fill in:

  • Registration
  • Make and model
  • Insurance company and policy number

4. Circumstances of the accident

Please tick the relevant options correctly (please pay particular attention to this point — it is crucial to the insurer’s decision).

5. Sketch of the accident

Draw a diagram of the accident using:

  • Direction of vehicles
  • Road signs
  • Final position

6. Comments

Please add any relevant details that might help to clarify what happened.

7. Subscriptions

Both drivers must sign. Without a signature, the document may not be valid.
